Susan Crain Lewis, MSSW

Ms. Lewis is responsible for oversight of all agency programs, finances, operations and personnel, and is the organization’s lead policy and systems advocate. She possesses over 35 years of program development, management and implementation experience.

She has worked in the fields of domestic violence, intellectual and developmental disability, reproductive health and teen pregnancy prevention, mental health and child welfare. She has served as a consultant to the Ohio and Indiana Child Welfare Training programs as adjunct facility for the University of Kansas, federal and regional grant as a reviewer, and on several local and national boards.

Ms. Lewis also possesses extensive background in outcome evaluation, community collaboration, and program, project and grants management and has personal and professional experience in cultural diversity and cultural diversity training.

Susan received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Women’s Students from Allegheny College, and Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Texan at Arlington.

Janet “Cookie” Cook, MSW

Cookie began her affiliation with Mental Health America of the Heartland in August 2007 as an intern while completing her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Kansas. In May of 2008, she was hired part-time under KU’s employment based practicum program as a Wellness and Support Advocate at one of the agency’s permanent supportive housing sites. Upon graduation, she became the full time Residential Manager for two different housing sites.

Now serving as the Director of Residential Services, Cookie incorporates her lived experiences as a mental health consumer into all her interactions with staff and tenants. Using the skill sets and networks she developed during 20 plus years working in the corporate world in various management level positions and as the owner of a full charge bookkeeper service, she strives to ensure all the programs and properties she oversee perform at their highest level and meet or exceed the expectations of MHAH, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other funders.

Stacy Davis, MA
Director of Mental Health Promotion

Stacy has over 18 years of social service experience and 26 years of experience in the design and delivery of professional and community education. Before her work at MHAH, Stacy was the Senior Continuing Education Program Manager at KU Medical Center for five years developing accredited continuing education programs for physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. She also worked with the UMKC School of Medicine faculty at Truman Medical Center in continuing medical education. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Life Science from Kansas State University, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, and a Master of Arts in Education for the University of Kansas.

April Jackson
Director of Advocacy and Recovery Services

April is from Kansas City, Missouri. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. April has been with the agency since 2013 and has worked in various programs throughout MHAH.
April is currently the Director of Advocacy and Recovery where she is responsible for finding ways to build partnerships within the community; to utilize WASAs (Wellnessand Support Advocates); to provide supportive services to individuals needing support with doctor appointments, understanding symptoms, identifying healthy coping skills; and much more. April also holds the position as Compassionate Ear Warmline. April also oversees the agency social media and agency website.

Gloria Brown
Director of Finance

Gloria is a Kansas City, KS native and is responsible for the financial oversight of MHAH. She has a bachelor’s degree in personal financial planning and business administration from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in accounting and financial management from Keller Graduate School of Management. Gloria has five years’ experience working in the nonprofit field and previously worked as a business manager of a mental health group therapy practice.
