Diagnosis and Working with Military Populous: Diagnosis, Differentials, Treatment and Care

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Social workers, psychologists, therapists, counselors and other mental health professionals, nurses and health care workers are invited to attend as well as the community. 

OVERVIEW: The Military populous has unique and complex maladies and treatments. The presenter will present and discuss the population of veterans, various diagnosis, neurobiology and complexities often faced with military clientele. He will explore the necessity of bringing multiple disciplines into the effort to help military clients. There will be resources brought forth to support one’s work as therapist, as well as some ‘open forum’ to share experiences, wisdom and resources. 

OBJECTIVES: After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify veteran and family scope of needs and diagnosis,
  • Explore evidence based modalities to treat specific and compounded diagnosis,
  • Explore multiple discipline resources to support their work with their clients.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Mental Health America of the Heartland is a pre-approved provider for social workers through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Provider Number 17-007. This continuing education provider is approved 1.5 hours for social workers and accepted for psychologists, professional counselors, masters prepared psychologists, marriage and family therapists and addiction counselors.  For licensed professionals, please bring license # to the workshop to receive your CEU Certificate of Attendance. A Certificate of Attendance of 1.5 CEU’s will be awarded to each participant.

Walter D. Disney M.S. LCMFT is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist in both Kansas and Missouri. He works with individuals, couples and families, focusing on PTSD and Trauma. Walt is a resident of KC Mo and a 13 year veteran of the Navy SEALs. He was trained as a Special Operations Medic.  He attended Friends University at their Lenexa campus. He is also certified in EMDR. He has a private practice in Overland Park Kansas and is Program Director for Warriors Ascent, a week-long retreat for Veterans and First responders (Police, Fire and EMT) to develop skills to recover from PTSD using evidence based modalities of Mindfulness, Yoga and Group dynamics.
