The Healing Power of Experience: An Interactive Presentation of the Ethical and Practical Considerations of Experiential, Relational Interventions in Therapy

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This workshop is designed for social workers, psychologists, therapists, professional counselors, masters prepared psychologists, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, nurses and health care workers.

OVERVIEW: This workshop overviews ethical and neurobiological considerations and benefits for experiential and relational interventions in therapy. Presenters will review key elements of Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics to demonstrate the therapeutic value and impact of experiential interventions.  Presenters will engage in hands on examples of useful experiential tools that will make this presentation interactive, practical and memorable. 

OBJECTIVES: After attending this workshop the participant will be able to:

  • Learn ethical considerations in the use of experiential interventions.
  • Understand basic components of how the brain processes trauma, change, and growth.
  • Learn psychological tools for moving toward brain integration and meaningful experiences that lead to healing and change.
  • Explore practical application for relational, experiential therapeutic intervention.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Mental Health America of the Heartland is a pre-approved provider for social workers through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Provider Number 17-007. This continuing education provider is approved 3.0 hours for social workers and accepted for psychologists, professional counselors, masters prepared psychologists, marriage and family therapists and addiction counselors. For licensed professionals, please bring license # to the workshop to receive your CEU Certificate of Attendance. A Certificate of Attendance of 3.0 CEU’s will be awarded to each participant.

Beth Russell, M.A., LCPC (Kansas), LPC (Missouri), NCC, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional is the Executive Director of Serenity Life Resource Center, a non-profit counseling and resource center with a team of counselors in Kansas and Missouri who provide counseling services for adults, children, couples, and families.  Beth is a licensed clinical professional counselor who utilizes a relational approach to healing both self and relationships.  Beth is also an adjunct professor and the coordinator of the spiritual formation track for graduate counseling at MidAmerica Nazarene University.

Andi Burgis is the CEO of Challenge U, LLC. Andi is the founder of Challenge U, an organization that has delivered over 26 years of transformational coaching, trainings, and learning experiences. Challenge U is located on a 40-acre equine and ropes course facility in Liberty, Missouri. Andi travels throughout the U.S. delivering experiential learning programs to individuals, leadership teams, and cooperate organizations.
